The most comun image format are:

-BMP: The BMP file formatis an image file format used to store bitmap digital
images, especially on Microsoft Windows and OS/2 operating systemssystems.


-JPEG:In computing, JPEG is a commonly used method of lossy compression for photographic images. The degree of compression can be adjusted, allowing a selectable tradeoff between storage size and image quality.

-PNG:The Graphics Interchange Format (GIF) is a bitmap image format that was introduced by CompuServe in 1987 and has since come into widespread usage on the World Wide Web due to its wide support and portability.The format supports up to 8 bits per pixel allowing a single image to reference a palette of up to 256 distinct colors chosen from the 24-bit RGB color

b) JPEG is the image format that preserves the quality when the image been compressed.
c) GIF is the format that is more suitable for web design.

JPEG (Joint Photomafile format)

The TIFF (Tagged Image File Format)

RAW refers to a family of raw image formats that are options available on some digital cameras.

The PNG (Portable Network Graphics) file format was created as the free, open-source successor to the GIF.

GIF (Graphics Interchange Format) GIF format is suitable for storing graphics with relatively few colors such as simple diagrams, shapes, logos and cartoon style images.

The BMP file format (Windows bitmap)Typically, BMP files are uncompressed, hence they are large; the advantage is their simplicity and wide acceptance in Windows programs.

Netpbm format is a family including the portable pixmap file format (PPM), the portable graymap file format (PGM) and the portable bitmap file format (PBM)


CGM (Computer Graphics Metafile) is a file format for 2D vector graphics, raster graphics, and text, and is defined by ISO/IEC 8632.

SVG (Scalable Vector Graphics) is an open standard created and developed by the World Wide Web Consortium to address the need .
Other image file formats of vector type include:

* ODG (OpenDocument Graphics), an open standard.
* EPS (Encapsulated PostScript)
* PDF (Portable Document Format)
* SWF (shockwave Flash)
* WMF / EMF (Windows Metafile / Enhanced Metafile)
* XPS (XML Paper Specification)
